With the latest WordPress update you must update Genesis FIRST, before WP. Actually this is something that you should always practice. Genesis first, WP second. The reason in its simpliest form is Genesis is the buffer between WordPress and your theme. Genesis keeps your site running smooth regardless of what WordPress does. Themes that don’t use a Parent theme will often break when wordpress releases a new update. This is due to changes in the WordPress platform that are no longer compatible with the theme. It is one of the many benefits of using Genesis and a child theme, you don’t have to deal with that sillyness, or uncertainty of updates. So anytime you see a Genesis update it is important to do it. It is also equally important to update Genesis first before WP.
What happens if I update WordPress first?
If you update WP before you update Genesis and there is a compatibility issue, you will get the “white screen of death”. Dramatic right?! It’s not a big deal and not something that should cause panic. It is fixable. You would need to login to your cpanel or FTP and replace the old framework with a copy of the new. Once you do that your site should load without issue. If you don’t know how to do that, contact us and we would be happy to help.
